The College of the Canyons, (COC) Automotive Technology Program received a $10,000 donation from the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association on Thursday.
On Thursday, Feb. 17, COC received a $10,000 donation from the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association to support the college’s automotive technology program.
“We are honored to be able to help support and train future automotive technicians by directing funds to community colleges so they can offer student scholarships, buy needed tools and equipment, including vehicles, that are critical for training,” said Jeannie Brewer, a board member of the car association and owner of the Acura dealership in Glendale. “Ensuring that we have a skilled workforce is extremely important for our industry, which is currently in dire need of trained technicians.”
COC intends to use the funds to invest in electric vehicle training aids, according to automotive technology officials.

Professor Gary Sornberger at COC noted the significant need for skilled automotive technicians and expressed appreciation for the new training opportunities these funds will bring to students exploring this career path.
“Our members have long been dedicated supporters of these efforts across the greater Los Angeles region,” said Bob Smith, executive director of the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association. “We are committed to supporting job growth and creation in the region, and are so pleased to be able to support these important workforce development programs.”
Over the years, the Greater Los Angeles New Car Dealers Association and their franchise dealer members have supported local educational institutions and their automotive training programs by giving more than $500,000 in donations used for student scholarships, program enhancements, facility upgrades and other related initiatives.
