How To Maximize The Potential Of This S-Tier Dragonborne Samurai Build In Elden Ring DLC?

Hello everyone, another Samurai build is coming, and if you want to make the most of the power of dragons, Dragonborne Samurai is the one for you. This build is capable of knocking down targets with the deadly Dragonwound Slash.

Here I will cover the playstyle of this Dragonborne Samurai, the gear to use, the best Talismans of this build, and tips for using the game. This build is not only extremely powerful but also very satisfying to use, so don’t miss it!

Gameplay

Dragonborne Samurai relies heavily on Dragonwound Slash to deal a lot of damage to targets during combat. This build is designed to provide simple gameplay while also being great for Elden Ring Runes farming quickly.

Dragonborne Samurai has high Strength and Dexterity, plus a little Faith Stat, and can use spells that enhance attack power to increase its overall firepower.

Gear

Now that the basic playstyle is out of the way, let’s move on to Dragonborne Samurai’s gear.

Main Weapon: Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana

Let’s start with the major Elden Ring weapon of the build, Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana. This is one of the latest weapons added to DLC. To use this Great Katana effectively, you need 15 Strength and 20 Dexterity, with both Strength and Dexterity being C Rated.

Overall, Great Katana is known for its hard-hitting attacks, satisfying attack animations, and, of course, ideal range.

When it comes to the main damaging attack in Dragonborne Samurai, Dragonwound Slash is the obvious choice. Not only does this skill have a unique and cool animation, but it’s also very satisfying to use, especially when hitting targets at close range.

How To Find The Dragon-Hunters Great Katana in Elden Ring

Weapon Skill: Dragonwound Slash

Dragonwound Slash is a chargeable skill that once the user holds down L2 button to fully charge it, it will glow, perform a leaping overhead slash, and release a shockwave in the process. The non-charged version is faster and is usually used against fast-moving enemies.

As mentioned before, Dragonwound Slash will provide versatility in your fights because of the shockwave it can unleash when fully charged. Not only can you deal a ton of damage up close, but you can also scorch enemies when fighting from a distance, which is very useful when a boss is out of reach because of a large range AOE attack.

In addition, it has a native blood-loss build-up, so when you mainly use regular normal attacks, expect to have additional bleed procs in the process. However, this is not the only focus of this build.

While this weapon promises to be one of my favorite new weapons in DLC, it has significant drawbacks, like the others. Its fully charged animation takes time, and you often cannot defend against enemy attacks, which can be the major cause of your death if used incorrectly.

Another thing is that this skill consumes a lot of Stamina. A skilled user of this Great Katana can cast multiple Dragonwound Slashes in a short period, but the biggest warning is that this skill will drain your Stamina in a few seconds.

Secondary Weapon: Finger Seal

Next up is the secondary weapon of the build, and I recommend using Finger Seal. While any Seal will do, since we only need Seal so that we can use the buff later on. Finger Seal is the easiest one to get, and is available from Twin Maiden Husks for 800 Elden Ring Runes.

Spells

With the weapons done, let’s move on to the spells, I suggest.

The first on the list is Flame Grant Me Strength, which grants an additional 20% Physical Attack Boost and Stamina Recovery Buff.

The second buff is, without a doubt, Golden Vow. This buff increases overall damage by 15% and adds 10% damage negation, which is very helpful for us to offset the negative effects of Weed Cutter.

Talismans

Next, let’s get to the best Talismans for Dragonborne Samurai.

The first choice is Shard of Alexander, which increases our skill damage by 15%, especially when performing Weed Cutter.

The next Talisman is Godfrey Icon, which increases the attack power of charged spells and skills by 15%. Since it is a rechargeable skill, it further increases the damage of Dragonwound Slash.

Next on the list is Two-Headed Turtle Talisman, which greatly increases Stamina Recovery. Since my gameplay and strategy always revolves around ultra-aggressive gameplay and strategy, most of the time, I am completely depleting my Stamina. Therefore, I will need this Talisman more than ever. With a faster recovery of stamina, we can dish out more Dragonwound Slash.

How to obtain the Two-Handed Sword Talisman in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The next Talisman choice is a bit more flexible, but I would recommend inserting Two-Handed Sword Talisman. There is a high chance that you will be performing normal attacks, especially against fast-moving bosses or targets, so equipping this Talisman will provide you with additional damage when performing two-handed attacks with Great Katana.

Armor Set

Now that the main equipment is out of the way, let’s move on to Elden Ring armor set for Dragonborne Samurai. For this build, I’m wearing the newly added Death Knight Set, and pairing it with Land of Reeds Helm. The black and gold theme of this set really adds to the vibe, and it matches Dragon Hunter’s Katana design.

Again, it does look great. But as long as you have enough Elden Ring Runes, you can wear whatever you want. If you want to optimize your armor set in some way, as long as you have 51 poise, it will be enough for most of the time.

Stats

Let’s move on to the stats for Dragonborne Samurai.

For Vigor, I allocated 45 points at the beginning. Since I’m used to using Glass Cannon Builds, I rarely allocate many points to Vigor. However, you are free to increase Vigor to 50 for increased survivability. If you’re really good at the game, you can lower it.

Next is Mind, which has 25 points allocated to it. It is highly recommended not to go below 25, because Dragonwound Slash requires 18 points per use, so you will run out of FP quickly. You can also choose to allocate 20 points, but you’ll need to use flasks often if you choose this route.

Moving on to Endurance, I allocated 30 points because Dragonwound Slash consumes a lot of stamina. Therefore, the more stamina you have, the more damage you can do.

For Strength and Dexterity, at least 67 for both so that you can maximize the stats scaling of Dragon-Hunter’s Great Katana.

Next up is Faith. I allocated 25 points so that you can access the aforementioned Flame Grant Me Strength and Golden Vow.

Finally, for Intelligence and Arcane, I didn’t allocate any points to them, so they’ll be 10 points each.

How To Optimize This Build?

Now that stats are out of the way, let’s move on to gameplay and optimization tips for Dragonborne Samurai.

Deal More Damage In The Opener

Before or at the beginning of a fight, I usually cast Flame Grant Me Strength and Golden Vow, then turn on my Flask of Wondrous Physick. Then, I will do as much damage as I can in this burst opener since all the buffs are active.

Use Dragonwound Slash Wisely

The second tip on the list is to use your Dragonwound Slash wisely. Trust me, using this skill is very addictive, but abusing this skill is wrong.

Since this skill has a long preparation time when using its fully charged version, you will be vulnerable to attacks, which can be the cause of your death in most cases. Once you master this skill, you can use its fully charged version effectively without getting hit even against fast-moving enemies.

However, if you have trouble using it, I recommend that you just press L2 and use its uncharged version. This way, you can still deal tremendous damage with a single strike with a shorter preparation time.

Elden Ring Dragonwound Slash

Switching Talisman

I recommend swapping out Two-Handed Sword Talisman for Crusade Insignia when exploring the overworld or dungeons. This Talisman is very effective when dealing with monsters because once you kill an enemy you will gain a persistent attack buff that refreshes every time you kill a new enemy, ultimately saving you a ton of time.

Chaining Dragonwound Slash

For this next tip, I found that after performing a Dragonwound Slash, you can chain it to your normal attack. If you’re good at using the charged version of it, you’ll have enough of a chance to deal with about two normal attacks. It’ll even increase your DPS if you master this.

Optimizing Bleed Procs

Finally, you can also make more use of bleed procs by changing up the settings I suggested. I recommend slotting in Swarm of Flies and equipping Dragon Communion Seal, instead of adjusting the points allocated to increase Strength and Dexterity and improve Arcane attribute.

All we need to do is replace Two-Handed Sword Talisman with Lord of Blood’s Exultation, then cast Swarm of Flies twice and wait for bleed to proc. Once it procs, we gain the buff of Lord of Blood’s Exultation and knock down the target with Dragonwound Slash.

All in all, Dragonborne Samurai is another fun and engaging Samurai build. Is it the best build you’re looking for? What do you think of this build? See you next time!
