Mouth Watering Chicken Curry

The word “curry” is derived from the Tamil word kari which means ‘sauce,’ which is usually means vegetables, meat cooked with spices with or without a gravy. Other school of thought says it has been derived from a Sanskrit word “Kari” which means “to prepare“. Curry is the word used to describe anything cooked with gravy and is analogous to the soup or stew. Curry can be made with any ingredients but mostly has three spices present which are turmeric, coriander and cumin. There are a variety of other spices in a curry depending on the food being cooked and the geographic region from where the curry belongs.

Curry is also used as a generic description used in the Western culture to describe a variety of dishes from Asian cuisines whether it be from India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan,Thaior other South and South east Asian country.

Chicken Curry is a common Indian dish which is popular all over the world. A curry has chicken in a sauce containing basic ingredients onion, yogurt and tomato this is then flavored with numerous species like ginger, chillies, cinnamon, garlic, cardamom to name a few. These masala contain turmeric, often coriander, cumin, mustard, chili, fenugreek, black pepper and salt. Besides these spices, other commonly found spices in different chicken curry recipe powders in India are allspice, white pepper, ground mustard, ground ginger, cinnamon, roasted cumin, cloves, nutmeg, mace, green cardamom seeds or black cardamom, bay leaves and coriander seeds.

Not only Indian recipes for chicken are consumed but Pakistani, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and other south Asian countries chicken curry recipes are also quite popular. Depending on the region, the chicken curry can be cooked in ghee (butter), ground nut oil, coconut oil, sunflower oil and many others. The chicken curry can be consumed with rice or can be eaten with chapatis or rotis or bread or can be prepared with rice known as Biryani.
